Colorado Pikeminnow
2018
acrylic and ink on wood
11.25" x 24"
The Colorado Pikeminnow is a native fish of the Colorado River. Its conservation status is 'Vulnerable'. To me, it is a potent symbol of the history of the Colorado River, as well as a personal symbol representing fear and bravery (I have a fish phobia). I have painted the Pikeminnow before as part of a larger work, and I felt drawn to return to it as a subject and give it more detail and accuracy. In that sense, this painting is a study.
