It’s hard to see in this picture, but the surface of the water is actually a map of a region near the Colorado River just north of Yuma.

The Colorado River Pikeminnow was formerly called the Squawfish. The term 'squaw' is loaded with derogatory, racist, and sexual connotations, and that's a lot of cultural baggage for a poor fish to carry. Since the name change happened within my lifetime, I see the Pikeminnow as a symbol of critical review of one's embedded assumptions -- which is a lot of artistic baggage for a poor fish to carry!
