The Fossil Evidence of Climate Change
acrylic/mixed media on canvas
about 46" x 46", including frame
The idea behind this one is that change leaves marks on landscapes (and people, and stories, and everything), and you can try to reconstruct a history based on those marks.
The text in the upper right is based on a table in an book by Willy Ley entitled 'Dragons in Amber'. This is a marvelous book containing all kinds of wonderful stories about extinction, relict species, fossils, and the ghosts of forests. The book was published in 1951, and so is a bit of a relict itself, and one of those signs of the past that you could use to reconstruct how ecology and evolutionary biology have changed over the last 70 years.
